Trevor Maxwell and the NECS nursing crew.jpg

Yesterday was my 8th immunotherapy infusion since starting my current regimen on Aug. 30, 2019. My oncologist and the nurses at New England Cancer Specialists in Scarborough, Maine, are outstanding. They are skillful, compassionate, and they have a great collective spirit and sense of humor.

Within the core nursing crew, many of them have been working together for more than a decade. They have gotten to know and love one another, raised kids, and supported one another through their own challenges along the way.

All the while, they care for us — the patients — as we navigate the emotional and physical hurdles of cancer. They make friends with us, knowing that many of us will die from our disease. And for those of us who achieve remission or cure, they celebrate by our sides. This is not an easy burden to bear. But they make the decision, every day, to be helpers in the world. To them, I say thank you!
