Trevor’s EOY Update

What a year it has been!

Thanks to your love and support, Man Up to Cancer continues to emerge as a leading men's cancer support community across North America and beyond.

We have been building our community, and the movement to change the way men go through cancer, since Jan. 1, 2020. In the fall of 2023, we became a nonprofit 501 (c)(3), so we could plan for the future and raise tax-deductible funds to serve our community with three core programs: the Gathering of Wolves men's cancer retreat; the Chemo Care Backpack program, and more than 40 local chapters.

Honestly, we didn't know what to expect in 2024. Most of our leadership team members are cancer patients and survivors, and only one member (thanks Martha Raymond!) had nonprofit management experience.

The results are in … and you helped us hit it out of the park! We have had a breakthrough foundational year, with more than $430,000 raised in support of our mission, including more than $150,000 in small donations from grassroots supporters. Major successes in 2024 included:

  • Grew our membership to 3000+ and 40+ local chapters

  • Hosted 150 members at our annual retreat

  • Supported six regional retreats across North America, with 10-15 participants

  • Shipped about 400 chemo care backpacks

  • Documented about 1,000 meetups between members in person and online

  • Provided 24/7 peer-to-peer support to our 3,000 members in our Facebook group

What's ahead for Man Up to Cancer for 2025?

NOTE: If you are a member of MUTC, you will never pay anything for membership, and you should never feel obligated to make a donation.

Our focus remains where it always has been, on serving our members with programs to improve their lives. Two major changes coming in 2025 will help us do that.

First, we will expand our membership model to allow men impacted by cancer to join directly through our website, www.manuptocancer.org. Members will be able to request a chemo care backpack, register for retreats, attend zooms and meetups, and more. Membership will always be free, thanks to the generosity of donors and corporate sponsors.

We will also launch a search in early January for our first-ever Executive Director. This person will lead and manage our staff, volunteers, programs, and operations. We plan to hire this person in the spring and have them formally on board on July 1, 2025. For more information on this position, please visit this page on our website.

See you in 2025!

Trevor
