Job Description - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

About Us

Man Up to Cancer is a nonprofit organization that inspires men to connect and avoid isolation during their cancer journeys. Through our three core programs — retreats, chemo care backpacks, and local chapters — we provide social and emotional support for male cancer patients, survivors, and male caregivers across all ages, backgrounds, and cancer types.

From truckers and powerlifters to attorneys and librarians, our community of men is authentic, unfiltered, brave, and big-hearted. We are known as the Wolfpack for the care we show one another. We’re building a movement that’s changing culture and scaling quickly into a mid-size nonprofit, serving 3000+ men across the U.S., Canada, and beyond.

The Job

As Executive Director, you'll be captain of our hardworking (and occasionally rowdy) crew and a $450k+ annual budget. You will oversee Man Up to Cancer’s programs, staff, fundraising, and finances, working to strengthen the organization and expand its influence while staying true to our roots. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will lead our relationships with donors, corporate partners, and other key stakeholders. The position will start on July 1, 2025, with hiring planned for spring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mission and Strategy:
Ensure programs and services align with our mission and values while collaborating with the board to implement strategic plans that guide the organization into the future.

  • Leadership and Management:
Oversee daily operations, including program delivery, staff management, and organizational processes, in tune with the unique culture of Man Up to Cancer.

  • Fundraising and Financial Management:
Lead fundraising efforts, build relationships with donors and corporate partners, manage the annual budget, and ensure financial transparency.

  • Governance and Board Relations:
Serve as the primary liaison to the board, providing updates and supporting board recruitment and governance best practices.

  • Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
Represent Man Up to Cancer at events, conferences, and in the media to build awareness and partnerships and expand our reach to new communities.

Qualifications

  • Mission-Driven: A deep commitment to improving the emotional and social well-being of men impacted by cancer, grounded in empathy and compassion

  • Trusted in the Trenches: Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, with a track record of scaling programs and improving organizational operations.

  • Lone Wolves Need Not Apply: Ability to collaborate with the board to develop and execute strategic plans that position the organization for long-term growth.

  • Straight Shooter: Strong communication abilities to inspire donors, engage partners, and represent the organization authentically.

Why Join Us?

  • Change culture for good: At Man Up to Cancer, you will have the opportunity to not only transform the lives of men facing cancer and their families, you will be the leader of a grassroots movement to change the way men go through cancer.

  • Scale with us: Fully remote. $80,000 annual salary to start with opportunities for growth as the organization scales. We will consider performance-based incentives that recognize and reward leadership excellence. Currently, the 13-person staff consists of part-time independent contractors and volunteers, with plans to formalize roles as we scale.

  • Build a legacy: You'll be at the helm of an organization that has a solid foundation — but has only begun to scratch the surface of its potential. As you help unlock that potential in the years to come, you will build a legacy of service that anyone would be proud of.
